Hi lovelies!!!!
So if you follow me on Instagram ( Pls make sure you follow if you are not following me already) I'm sure you know what I was up to the previous weekend, right?
So last weekend I attended the GT Bank (Guaranty Trust Bank) Fashion Weekend which took place at Landmark Arena, Plot 1, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, Victoria Island Lagos with Thonia and Sandra. It was a two-day event but we only attended the first day. Pls don't ask me why? I could go on about it forever.
I wasn't even sure if I was going to actually attend and it was sorta a last minute decision but we all decided to attend the event together, best decision ever.
I guess you have read the various reviews and seen pictures from the event and I'm sure you know that it was a pretty cool event, way cooler than the LFDW if you ask me but I'm sure you were not asking, Lol.
Like the LFDW, I also arrived late. Trust me, that wasn't the intention. I didn't want to arrive too early though because I registered for the Fashion Master Class Series (which started way early, before the presentation and runway) and I didn't get a seat.
So we all agreed to attend the event in the afternoon. Amidst hours of trying to order an Uber, It was a complete struggle, surge pricing and no Uber in the area, we finally settled for a yellow taxi. Our taxi driver failed to mention that he didn't know how to get to the location and kept driving around, somehow we eventually found our way to the location but it was already getting dark. We already missed out on the other activities and could only watch the runway show.
We set out to take a few pictures, get something to eat ( Yeah, there was actually food to buy unlike the LFDW) and basically socialise aka network.

So for this post. I'll be sharing a few highlights from the event.
- Organisation- Can we all take a moment to truly appreciate how organised the show was. Like from the security at the gate to, how put together, the exhibition centres appeared and most importantly, timing. Yeah, you read that correctly. In contrast, to the LFDW which started pretty late and ended quite late as well, The GT Bank Fashion weekend was completely different, the show started early and they kept to time. I only attended a day out of the two days but based on the positive feedback I received from friends. I truly commend the organisers for defying the whole African time notion.
- Space- This was the first thing I noticed as I walked in. The vast space was enough for everyone to actually take pictures, we didn't have to keep bumping into each other. Like there was enough room to do your own thing. Also, enough room for different vendors to showcase their wares.
- Fashion Master Class Series - I still can't get over this feeling of disappointment. I was so disappointed when I received a mail informing me that I couldn't attend the master class. I was really looking forward to listening to some of the Keynote speakers and Fashion entrepreneurs speak.
Asides free admittance to the event, the Fashion Master Class Series was also free and the best part is that they actually issued out a certificate to the attendees.
- Inclusion- I studied Human resources management and if there is one thing I love about my course, it is the people relations aspect. So basically human resources entail treating people with respect, finding out the needs of each individual, figuring out and actually satisfying this needs and a whole lot more. It teaches you that people are important and as such, they should be treated with respect.
For a free event, I have to truly commend the organisers for opening their arms to welcome everyone.
- The Runway Show- The designers came fully prepared, They literally set the runway on fire. I attended the first day and I fell in love with all the pieces from Julien MacDonald collection, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi collection was so lit that I didn't want the show to end. I also loved Adama Paris collection.
Taibo Bacar
I have to chip this in as the last even though I want to go on and on about the show.
- The fireworks- I really don't know if there was any on the 2nd day but the first day after the event, there was a lot of fireworks and it was truly beautiful to watch. A great way to end the show for the night.
I had a swell time at the event it felt more like a fashion Festival, I had to deal with some rude ushers who were hoarding the goody bags and also a little snob situation with a celebrity which I choose not to talk about or dwell on.
There were so many beautiful pieces from different Nigerian fashion brands. The whole essence of the event was to promote enterprise within the Nigerian Fashion industry and Yes, I believe they did this and more.
I can't wait for the next one.
How did you spend your weekend?

I sincerely apologise for putting up this post late, I've had a lot on my plate lately. It is exactly 8 months into my service year and I'm already thinking about the next stage, which means a lot of planning, analysing and making more life decisions. Pray for me that I make the right decision.

ReplyDeleteThis post is so detailed. I love your outfit. You'd make the right decisions dear, all that's needed is to put God first by praying about it. Why are cab drivers like that? Lol. Must have been frustrating.

DeleteI will definitely pray and ask him for directions.
This cab drivers and their wahala sha, funny how I wasn't even frustrated. I was just thinking that when this dude is done with all of this I will still pay him the same amount.
Hey girl! Did you and Thonia plan your outfits? Yes to comfortable yet chic outfits! To think I was planning to attend LFDW next year? I'd just stick to attend next year's edition of GT Fashion week. Sorry about missing the master class. There are other opportunities y'know and your driver eh! Sorry. I see you people had fun, might just plan to go with you next year . Let's wait and see.
ReplyDeleteHi dear.
DeleteWe didn't, major coincidence. I guess we were both going for comfy chic and we achieved that.
I think you should attend the LFDW next year and I hope it is better than it was this year. We could go together. I'm definitely going to attend the next GT fashion weekend.
I actually wish I was around for this event, maybe next year. Love your outfit too especially the jeans 👖 I'm coming them so better hide it asap! Thonia and Sandra looked fab too glad you all had fun despite the cab ish 😊😊

DeleteI don't think we wear the same size though. No need to hide them, they are completely safe from your reach.

Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The GTB fashion week is hands down my best event in 2016. I didn't get to see the fashion show but ite crafts village and exhibition was fine. I also got to meet really chilled people. You did good with your review.
